Getting Ready for the Loan Application Process

Once you’re ready to fill out the loan application, take a moment to ensure you have all of the documents that you’ll need. The information that you used to fill out the pre-qualification form will be the same, so the loan application should be straightforward for you. There may be other documentation that you’ll need to gather for the loan processor or underwriter, such as military certificates, property deeds, or tax records. Keep everything in one place, so that you’ll have easy access to it when you need it.

After submitting your loan information to the processor, here’s what will happen:

  • Your information will be checked for accuracy.
  • Your loan processor may have further questions for you, so always return messages from the lender right away.
  • The loan company will request an appraisal on the property. The appraiser will provide the processor with a value on the property to make sure it matches the requested loan amount.
  • If the processor is happy with the appraisal and application, it will be passed on to the underwriter.

The Home Stretch to Owning Your Home

The underwriter goes over the application again to look for any issues that may have been missed. This is an important stage of the lending process, but it typically doesn’t take long if you’ve provided all of the information for the loan packet. If the underwriter approves the loan, you’ll be offered a contract for the loan amount. 

Your home loan contract will include information that you’ll want to verify, such as the terms of the loan, the spelling of your name, and property address. We’ll be available to answer any questions about monthly loan payments or interest rates if you need help.

After you sign the contract, we transfer money to complete the loan process, and any closing costs or fees are paid at this time as well. Your name will be placed on the title, and you’ll receive closing documents and the keys to your new house.
